The Yoga Doctor program applies an evidence-based model of yoga therapy to the recreational yoga practice and personalizes the teacher’s investment in the growth of their students’ practice. This program adds an innovative dimension to the student-teacher relationship, fostering an environment of commitment and continuous improvement.
Through a series of 45 minute sessions, “Doctors” will work with yoga students to create an organized program tailored to address specific physical or emotional goals. Students may come to the Doctor for any of the following reasons:
- To treat minor injuries or irritations
- To improve an acute or chronic issue
- To work toward fitness or emotional goals
During the appointment, Doctors will educate the student on their specific condition or tendencies, and then teach postures to address the issue. Outside of the Yoga Doctor appointments, students are encouraged to attend classes with their Doctor to receive personalized modifications. Using their in-depth knowledge of the student’s specific situation, Doctors will customize class in a way that enhances both the student’s practice experience and their fundamental growth.
Progress through the program is regularly assessed by the Doctor in follow-up appointments, using a software system developed by YogaMedics. This software tool objectively measures progress and provides specific, quantifiable results. Categories of measurement may include flexibility, strength, range of motion, and emotional state, for example. In this way, the student can visualize and fully understand the direct affect their yoga practice has on various aspects of well-being. Our goal is to clearly define the correlation between yoga and quality of life, thereby establishing purpose and motivation for longevity in the practice.
