OVERVIEW
Citizen Yoga’s 200-Hour Yoga Training is a Yoga Alliance-certified program designed around the physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual principles of the yoga practice. Throughout the program, trainees will be guided on a journey of self-transformation as they begin to internalize, live, and teach Citizen alignment yoga. Based on a manual developed by Citizen Yoga founder Kacee Must, Citizen’s upcoming 200-Hour program will be in a hybrid format that combines the convenience of virtual learning with valuable in-person teaching to offer a highly engaging and educational experience.
Citizen Yoga’s training team combines decades of yoga teaching and training experience to offer a comprehensive, foundational yoga education that prepares trainees to be able to teach multiple types of yoga classes upon graduation. Graduates from our program are eligible to register as a Registered Yoga Teacher-200 with the Yoga Alliance.

CURRICULUM
Citizen Yoga teaches alignment yoga as a tool for physical and mental transformation. Rooted in tradition, our 200-Hour training blends concepts from Ashtanga, Hatha, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and sacred geometry to empower trainees to teach a safe and sustainable practice that brings body, breath, and mind into alignment.
- Introduction to pranayama, drishti, and bandhas
- Pose breakdown for over 80 asanas, including Sanskrit and English names, standard and advanced alignment cues, prop usage, modifications, and contraindications
- Yogic philosophy, including the 8 limbs, koshas, chakras, and Vedanta
- Anatomy and physiology
- Sequencing and timing for various class types
- Supportive assists
- Introduction to Prenatal, Yin, Restorative and Nidra yoga
- Chinese Medicine’s seasonal approach to yoga
- Exploration of trauma-informed yoga
- Inclusive teaching
- Developing your voice
- Messaging while teaching
- Your career as a yoga teacher

Citizen Yoga 200HR trainees receive Citizen Yoga’s 200+ page Training Manual, a dedicated teacher mentor for weekly mentorship group meetings, unlimited in-studio + online classes, and access to Citizen On-Demand during the program.

Citizen Yoga is proud to offer Inclusion scholarships for our 200-Hour Yoga Training to 3 individuals who strive to share the practice and learnings of yoga through teaching.
Every action and decision that we make at Citizen Yoga is guided by our 5 core values: Alignment, Integrity, Community, Support, and Inclusion. As part of our ongoing effort to diversify the demographics of students who practice, train, and teach at Citizen, the Inclusion scholarships were introduced in 2020. We continue to seek creative ways to challenge our blindspots and make physical and mental health more accessible and approachable to everyone.

Amount: 1 full scholarship and 2 partial scholarships* are available for Citizen Yoga’s Summer 2023 200-HR Training.
Due Date: Applications for Summer 2023 scholarships are due on Saturday, April 15, 2023. Recipients will be contacted by May 1, 2023.
Note: *A partial scholarship is $1700 off full-price tuition. Student is responsible for $1500.
SCHEDULE
Citizen’s next 200-Hour Yoga Training will begin June 13, 2023 and run thru mid-October 2023. With a curriculum refresh, the training will follow a new hybrid approach, with 70% of instruction taking place in person at the Citizen Yoga Royal Oak studio and 30% online (live through Zoom) This model allows for flexibility while also enhancing students’ learning of specific sections. If you would like to participate in training, but are unable to attend in person trainings due to your location or personal reasons, please reach out to our team.
Weekly Workshop/Lecture Commitment:
- Online: One Weekday from 5:30-7:30pm EST
- In-Studio/Online: Every Saturday for 4 hours and 2 Sundays per month for 4 hours
EXPECTATIONS
Citizen Yoga maintains an attendance policy to ensure all students get the most out of the program. The maximum amount of missed Zoom sessions is 3. Any missed live sessions must be made up by reviewing the Zoom recording. We’re happy to work with students to ensure that any missed information is captured.
As part of 200HR Training, students are required to practice with Citizen Yoga at least 3 times a week, attend weekly mentor group check-ins, complete at least 25 hours of practice teaching, and complete assigned homework.
The flexibility of Citizen’s Online Teacher Training allowed me to commit to deepening my expertise of yoga in a way that worked for my schedule. Citizen Yoga offers a Teacher Training that invites you to explore what drives you in life and the ways in which integrity, authenticity, and purpose can invigorate and guide your teaching style.
